How implants work

This page will explain the process of implant treatment.

The process

You either have a missing tooth or a bad tooth which can no longer be saved

Your dentist will either send you for a CT scan (3D x-ray to ascertain how much bone you have for the implant screw) or a consultation with the Implant Surgeon

The Implant Surgeon will assess your issue and give you advice on your treatment options

You may be given information forms to take away to read | Finances may also be discussed

You have your implant screw placed | It may be possible to have the tooth removed and the implant screw placed on the same day | It may be possible to attach a fixed temporary tooth on top of the implant screw

The implant is left alone for 3-4 months to allow it to fully fuse with your jawbone | The construction of the prosthesis which goes on top of the implant (crown or bridge) now begins | For simple crowns, this process takes 3-4 weeks

After your final crown or bridge is fitted, we will tell you the best way to look after it for a long-lasting result
